Stockport Academy Student Wins FA Cup

It’s not every day you can say you’ve won the FA Cup, but that’s exactly what Annabell Veryard was able to boast about when she came into school on Monday.

Annabell was part of the Manchester City Girls team that picked up the Youth Girls FA Cup this weekend, after beating Reading 3-1 in the final on Saturday.

The Year 10 student has been with the side since August, having signed a 2-year youth contract with them, and has been playing regularly for the team since October as a centre back.

Dedicated Annabell spends four nights a week training and plays for Manchester City Girls every weekend, with the side having three games left in the season as they push for a fifth-place finish. However, the highlight of her career so far has to be her esteemed FA Cup win.

“It’s really fun playing with Manchester City but it also comes with a lot of pressure. It’s such a great experience playing with such a big team and I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved.

Principal Mrs McCann said: “We are all so proud of Annabell at Stockport Academy, she is such a talented student who, despite her success, is keeping her feet firmly on the ground and we’re certain she has a very exciting future ahead of her!”
