Aspiring Authors Receive Writing Masterclass

Our Year 7 and 8 students were given top tips on how to become successful writers by one of the best in the business.

We were visited by author Steve Skidmore, who has written over 200 titles, and he led several sessions in our library on how to follow in his footsteps and pen a perfect story. Steve also read excerpts from a variety of his iHero series, which are interactive stories where the reader has the option to choose each action their character takes. This led to an interactive storytelling extravaganza that involved fancy dress, funny voices and plenty of excitement from the audience!

This was all underpinned by Steve time and again stressing the importance of reading, and giving away the secrets to how the story-writing process works, passing on valuable nuggets of information every step of the way.

In the afternoon, Year 5 students from Alexandra Park Primary School visited Stockport Academy. Steve delivered a seamless session especially tailored for them, incorporating much of the story-telling wonder that went on earlier, before then interacting with some of his newest fans and signing books.

Stockport Academy Librarian Mr Clarke said: “We can’t thank Steve enough for paying us a visit and his workshops were wonderful and thoroughly engaging. Both our students and the Year 5s left the library absolutely buzzing about all things books, and the prospect of writing more stories for themselves. You really can’t ask for more than that.”
