Record Number Of Families Flock To Stockport Academy Open Evening

For the fourth year in a row, Stockport Academy welcomed a record number of people through our doors for our annual Open Evening, with over 600 people coming to see what our school has to offer.

Over 600 visitors attended on the night, with everyone getting the chance to speak to students and staff ahead of the Year 6 secondary school application deadline at the end of October.

Our Year 11 Gold Ties and Prefects ran tour groups around the school, with a packed programme of activities taking place across all departments during the two-hour event, which included a presentation from Stockport Academy Principal Mrs McCann in the Main Hall.

Visitors could try their hands at a wide range of interactive Science demos and watch Mr Campbell’s infamous live Science demonstration, while there was also the opportunity to have a go at playing the Steel Pans in Ms Stevenson’s Music Room. Elsewhere, there was volcano making in Geography, a murder mystery conundrum in History, Numeracy challenges in Maths and tapas tasting in MFL.

Once again, our English department went all out, with staff dressing up as Oliver Twist-style workhouse boys, and visitors could try trampolining, tank-building and archery in the Sports Hall with our PE and Enrichment team.

Families also had the chance to find out more about the school's business links with Lex Autolease, with employees from the organisation happy to talk to guests about the support they offer as part of our extensive careers programme. Lex Autolease generously donated a minibus to the school earlier this year and brought along a top of the range BMW F90 M5 Saloon on the night to bring some extra glitz and glamour to the occasion!

Mrs McCann said: “We are incredibly proud of our school and always look forward to Open Evening as an opportunity to show the community what education with character means to us.

“I would like to thank everyone who turned up to spend the evening with us, along with all the students and staff who did an outstanding job at representing Stockport Academy. It was great to see a record number of visitors attending, which reflects our reputation as one of the leading schools in the borough.”
