Rivington Pike

On Saturday the 2nd of February, our Duke of Edinburgh team went out on our first practice walk in preparation for our final expedition.

On the Friday before the walk, we split ourselves into three groups and planned our routes around Rivington Pike. Each team took a different route.

On the morning of our walk, we all met up at school dressed head-to-toe in our walking gear. We were then given our maps so that we could follow our chosen routes and look around for landmarks to ensure we were definitely going the right way. When we arrived at our starting point in Rivington, we soon realised it was going to be a lot harder (and a lot more fun!) than we thought, as everywhere we looked was completely covered in snow and ice.

On the way around, we practiced our orienteering skills and learned how to find exactly where we were on our maps. In our team, we were all given different landmarks on our map to spot along the way. There were some beautiful landscapes that we walked past and we all had lots of fun chanting and singing along the way. In total, we walked about 7.11 kilometres and every step was worth it!
