Everyone Is A Winner At Stockport Academy Prizegiving Ceremony

Our staff, students, families, governors and the local community all came together for a night of celebration at our annual prizegiving ceremony.

Hosted once again at the fabulous Stockport Plaza, over 250 students attended to receive over 400 awards during the evening – celebrating everything from 100% attendance to charity work, sporting achievements and academic success.

The event officially got underway with a wonderful performance by our Steel Band and the Choir – who performed a trio of songs from ‘The Greatest Showman’ - before opening speeches by Principal Mrs McCann and Chair of Governors, Mr Robinson.

This year our guest speaker was the excellent Chris Lubbe – who presented each prize on stage before delivering an inspirational speech that drew on his own experiences of working as Nelson Mandela’s bodyguard and taking on Apartheid in South Africa.

Six students achieved the incredible feat of 5 Years 100% Attendance – not missing a single day of school between Year 7 and Year 11. They were each presented with a laptop or tablet computer as a reward for their dedication to their education.

We were also delighted to present our school charities with a combined total of £5,000 in donations, raised by students throughout the year. Representatives from Signpost Stockport Young Carers, Once upon A Smile and Jamie Horrocks Trust were on-hand to receive the cheques that will go towards their cause.

Mrs McCann said: “Prizegiving is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the school calendar and it was an amazing experience to celebrate the very best of the last year under the roof of the iconic Stockport Plaza.

“I am so proud of everyone who attended and felt privileged to be able to share their achievements with our school community. It was a truly inspirational evening and I would like to thank all of our guests who came to support us on the night.”
