Mr McCarron Given Lifetime Achievement Award

Our Executive Principal has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to education.

Mr McCarron, who also oversees Manchester Academy, William Hulme’s Grammar School and Harrop Fold School has been recognised as part of United Learning’s National Best in Everyone Awards.

Mr McCarron was nominated for this prestigious award by his colleagues at Stockport Academy which he joined as Principal in 2012. As well as raising academic standards and helping the school achieve a 'Good' Ofsted rating in 2015, Mr McCarron prioritised pastoral care and, under his leadership, the academy has achieved national recognition for anti-bullying, democracy, sports, inclusivity and support for young carers.  In recent years, Mr McCarron has supported United Learning’s other schools in Greater Manchester helping them drive improvement and provide students with the very best education.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s awards ceremony took place virtually rather than as part of a live event.  Mr McCarron’s award was therefore announced via a special video on Twitter, along with a personal message of congratulations from Mrs McCann, Principal of Stockport Academy.

She said: “Mr McCarron is an inspirational school leader.  I have had the privilege of working with him for many years and under his leadership, the academic attainment of students has improved considerably and students can now pursue challenging and highly rewarding careers.

“His commitment to student wellbeing is second to none and students have really benefited from his focus on pastoral care.  Thanks to his influence, our students are exemplars of Education with Character; they are articulate, responsible and ambitious young adults ready to grasp every opportunity available to them.

“As well as inspiring students, Mr McCarron has been a role model to staff who have been motivated by his management style which combines care and compassion with an unrelenting focus on standards.

“This Lifetime Achievement Award is a very fitting tribute to his many years of service.  We thank him for his significant contribution to the many schools he has worked with and wish him well as he begins his retirement.

Mr McCarron said: "It has been an honour and privilege to have spent a lifetime working in education and I am humbled to receive this Lifetime Achievement award. I have had the pleasure of being able to make a positive difference to the lives of thousands of young people throughout my career while working alongside inspirational colleagues in phenomenal schools.  I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years."
