GCSE Results Day Leaves Students On Cloud 9

Students at Stockport Academy are celebrating the awarding of GCSE grades today, with the qualifications reflecting their hard work and commitment over the past five years.

This year, as with A Levels, GCSEs were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at Stockport Academy sat in-class exams and completed coursework.

This morning was an excellent opportunity to congratulate students for their diligence and perseverance in the face of disruption caused by the pandemic.

Some of the school’s standout individual achievements include:

  • Jessica Su, who was awarded eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8;
  • Abdullah Baig, who was awarded seven Grade 9s and one Grade 8;
  • Evie White Cosgrave, who was awarded seven Grade 9s and one Grade 8;
  • Leonie James, who was awarded five Grade 9s and four Grade 8s;
  • Katie-Lee King, who was awarded five Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Alfie Maskell, who was awarded four Grade 9s and four Grade 8s.

Notably, the academy also has four sets of twins who are enjoying their GCSE success today. This includes Shehrbano Jameel, who was awarded one Grade 9, two Grade 8s and two Grade7s and Shahwali Jameel, who who was awarded a Distinction in Enterprise and Marketing and a Merit in Creative iMedia.

Mrs McCann, Principal at Stockport Academy said:

“I’d like to congratulate all our students celebrating today and thank them and our staff for all their hard work and determination over the past eighteen months. These GCSE qualifications are students’ first steppingstone on their journey to university, the professions, and happy, successful adult lives. No one is going to forget the challenges that this cohort of young people have faced and my admiration for them and what they have achieved is considerable. As a school, we’re very proud of our Year 11s and we wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
