Stockport Academy treated to music with a message

Students are learning about Christian values through the medium of music this week.

The Message Trust, which has been working within schools across Greater Manchester for over 20 years, involves professional musicians, actors and dancers sharing a Christian message with students.

Coordinating with Religious Studies in the Academy, the theme of the group’s visit is ‘Man in the Mirror’, which asks students the questions ‘How do you see yourself?’, ‘What do others see in you?’ and ‘How do you interact with others?’

The sessions are designed to help students boost their levels of self-esteem, self confidence and respect for themselves and each other.

All week, students will be attending special performances by BrightLine – a four-piece band that is part of The Message Trust. The act have been playing their own music and delivering a message that ties in with the weekly theme.

Their visit will conclude with an end-of-week concert, which will give students the chance to experience a final professional performance and react to what they’ve learned during the visit.

Stockport Academy Chaplain Karen Beal said: “We are incredibly fortunate to be hosting The Message Trust and BrightLine this week.

“As well as allowing the students to see these talented musicians perform, the week also gets across an important message about how we should think about treating ourselves and others – something that is at the heart of Christian values.”
