Academy students in egg-cellent form for Lent

Throughout Lent, our students have been given the challenge of completing 40 acts of kindness – encouraging them to consider how they can make a positive difference to their community and others around them.

The task has resulted in a variety of displays of goodwill, ranging from students leaving kind messages for their peers on post-it notes, to the organisation of charity competitions such as ‘guess the number of Easter eggs in the jar’.

Perhaps one of the most inspirational examples came from 10CMC, who decided to put their money together to buy 40 items of food and donate it to local charity Chelwood Foodbank. In addition to this, they also bought ten Easter eggs to be given to children who would otherwise not receive anything.

Yesterday, representatives from Chelwood Foodbank came to pick up the donations and thanked the students for their generosity.

Form tutor Mrs McGahey said: “10CMC are a credit to the Academy for their contributions to charity work. In addition to the work they’ve done for Chelwood in the run-up to Easter, they have tackled a variety of projects to help those less fortunate than themselves. I am so proud of their enthusiasm and dedication.”

Previously, 10CMC were the first form in the school to complete their charity event, and have completed a number of tasks throughout the year, including:

·         Weighing in their jumble and taking it to charity

·         Raising £50 to send shoe boxes of gifts to children in war torn countries

·         Raising a further £50 to make four large hampers for the Socially Yours group

·         Selling poppies for the remembrance appeal and creating a display board on the humanities corridor

A big well done to everyone who got involved in the 40 Acts challenge – it’s been great to see how committed everyone at the Academy is towards making a difference.
