Stockport Academy students celebrated at Prizegiving Ceremony

More than 1,000 people attended Stockport Academy’s annual Prizegiving Ceremony, celebrating all the achievements of students over the school year at Stockport Plaza.

It was an evening full of smiles, as over 250 students picked up awards recognising everything from their charity work and achievements in individual subjects, to attendance and their contribution to the school’s wider community.

The night also saw £5,000 donated to good causes, with representatives from MacMillan, Smile International and Signpost Stockport all on hand to receive cheques for their organisations as a result of the students’ hard work.

Guests were entertained by the choir and steel band, while guest speaker Paul Barrett provided an inspirational talk about how he overcame adversity after stepping on a landmine while serving with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan in 2008.

Principal Mr McCarron said: “Our Prizegiving Ceremony is one of the biggest dates on the school calendar and something we all look forward to every year.

“It is a fantastic occasion to recognise the achievements of all of our students together, and the evening was truly memorable. We are all incredibly proud of what these young people have accomplished over the past year.

"Many thanks as well to our sponsors for the night, who supplied many of our students with some fantastic prizes."

A full set of photographs from the night are now available to view here for parents and carers to browse through and purchase. Please send the image number along with £1 per picture with your child to buy from reception.
