Ofsted’s Chief Inspector visits Stockport Academy

Ofsted’s Chief Inspector visits Stockport Academy

Published on 27 January 2017

Stockport Academy had the honour of becoming the first school to be visited by Ofsted’s new Chief Inspector Amanda Spielman.

Mrs Spielman, who has been in the role since the start of the month, spent the morning touring the academy and meeting students, accompanied by Ofsted Regional Director for the North West Andrew Cook and Senior Operational Lead Vincent Ashworth.

The visit is quite a coup for the academy, having hosted Mrs Spielman's predecessor Sir Michael Wilshaw less than seven months ago.

Executive Principal Mr McCarron said: "It has been a privilege to welcome Mrs Spielman, Mr Cook and Mr Ashworth to the academy and showcase what our school is all about.

"I think the fact Stockport Academy is the first school the Chief Inspector has chosen to visit since her appointment speaks volumes about the quality of education on offer here and just how far we have come in recent years on our journey to provide an excellent education."

The academy was rated a 'Good' school with 'Outstanding' features by Ofsted in March 2015 and recently enjoyed its best ever GCSE results. According to the latest Progress 8 league tables, it is also ranked in the Top 3 schools in Stockport.
