Year 11 dress to impress for IAG week

Students had the chance to put their interview skills to the test as they were put in front of staff from some of the biggest employers in the country as part of IAG Week.

On Wednesday, our Year 11s came into school dressed to impress as they took part in individual interviews with companies including Lex Autolease, Richer Sounds, Gorvins Solicitors and Timpsons. They were then given feedback on how they performed and offered key tips to help them get top marks when the time comes for interviews in real life.

Other highlights of the day included the whole year group taking part in a Life Skills session led by Barclays that covered issues such as how to budget, while Northumbria University gave a seminar on revision skills.

Finally, the day closed with a Careers Fair that saw students and parents meet with representatives from local colleges, sixth forms and employers to discuss their options after leaving school.

Events have been running in school all week as part of the IAG theme, with Northumbria University offering sessions to Year 8 and 9 students to give them an idea of what life is like at university and how their option choices can impact on what sort of career they would like to embark upon.

IAG Coordinator Mr Cheetham said: “I can’t thank the organisations enough who have spent time offering their valuable careers insights to our students.

“The importance we place on IAG is highlighted by the fact we are an IAG Gold Award winner and this week has really highlighted just how much of a difference this focus can make on our students’ future prospects.”
