Childcare and Development

When studying Child Development and Care in Early Years, students will be learning essential knowledge about children's physical, cognitive and social and emotional development, as well as communication and language in children from birth to five years old. They will look at how to create supportive, safe, and stimulating environments that promote learning and well-being, while also addressing the needs of children with special requirements. Students will underpin strategies for play-based learning, safeguarding and early intervention, as well as the importance of observation and family engagement. Students will prepare to work effectively with young children in diverse early childhood settings.

The NFCE 1/2 Child Development and Care in the Early Years course encourages students to understand and apply key principles of child development, fostering a deep commitment to supporting young children’s growth in all 4 key areas. It motivates students to create nurturing and inclusive environments, design play-based learning experiences, and engage with families to support children's needs. The course welcomes opportunity to develop practical skills through hands-on experience in early years settings, as well as visits from current early year practitioners. It encourages students to become empathetic, caring professionals who supports the importance of children’s well-being and development.
