Stockport Academy Celebrates British Science Week With A Bang!
/ Categories: News
We celebrated British Science Week with a bang, smoke and flames as students and staff participated in some amazing demonstrations and activities to really bring the subject to life.
In addition to extra practical sessions during lessons that included witnessing the effects that smoking a cigarette can have on a person’s lungs and studying the rate of photosynthesis in pondweed, students had the opportunity to take part in a Science-related activity every day after school.
One of the most popular activities was a Science-themed ‘Escape Room’, with students set the task of cracking a code by solving a series of scientific conundrums. Over the course of the week, teams competed to set the fastest time, with the winning team taking just 30 minutes and 29 seconds to finish all of their tasks.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Science Week without a special display from Head of Science Mr Campbell, who put on two shows – one for Year 5 students at St Matthews Primary and another for Stockport Academy students in the Main Hall. The audience weren’t left disappointed – with plenty of gasps and cheers throughout!
Mr Campbell said: “British Science Week is the perfect reason to celebrate all things Science and it’s great to see everyone at Stockport Academy get into the spirit of it all! Thank you to all staff and students who contributed to another amazing week.”
