Hello I am Michelle, the school counsellor based at Stockport Academy. Counselling can help with anxiety, low mood, body image, sexuality, bereavement, self confidence and self esteem, anger or any worries students have. It is a safe place for students to express their thoughts and feelings without being judged. For students, problems may feel like a confusing jigsaw. In counselling we can sort the jigsaw pieces into a picture that makes sense to them. Students can self refer themselves to counselling by speaking to their pastoral manager or attend the daily drop in sessions.
If you are struggling, here are a few resources to support:
A wellbeing support leaflet, with details of many local and national support agencies.
www.youngminds.org.uk offers useful advice to both children and parent/carers.
www.kooth.com offers online counselling support children can access through their app.
For specific support, children/carers can access support from a number of charities and organisations including:
www.anxiety.org.uk
www.childbereavementuk.org
www.beatdisorders.org.uk for help with eating disorders
www.talktofrank.com to help with addictions
