Ms Harrison Named Finalist for Prestigious Pearson Outstanding New Teacher of the Year Award

Our community is celebrating after Assistant Head of Art & Design, Ms Hayley Harrison, was named a finalist for the 2026 Pearson National Teaching Awards’ Outstanding New Teacher of the Year category.

This award recognises inspirational early‑career teachers who demonstrate exceptional promise, impact and professional excellence.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards shine a national spotlight on educators who make a transformative difference to young people’s lives, celebrating those who inspire a love of learning and contribute positively to their school and wider community.

A former Stockport Academy student who trained through our own United Teaching programme, Ms Harrison has quickly become an exceptional practitioner whose creativity, curriculum leadership and commitment have already had a transformative impact on students and colleagues alike. Her nomination highlights her inspiring teaching, rapid improvement of DT outcomes, contribution to department development and dedication to enriching wider student experiences across the year.

Becoming a finalist for a national award of this calibre is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the remarkable progress she has made in her early career. The Award for Outstanding New Teacher recognises those in their first three years of teaching who already demonstrate exceptional skill, influence and professional promise.

Reflecting on her shortlisting, Ms Harrison said: "I feel really really proud of myself, also a little bit shocked as it came as a surprise. Obviously I am really grateful to the people that put me forward - my team, my department and the training team as well who have helped me become the teacher that I am to achieve this."

Our Principal, Mrs McCann added: "We are incredibly proud to see Ms Harrison’s passion, professionalism and creativity recognised on a national platform, and we wish her every success as the awards process continues."
