Sagarmatha Retains Sports Day Crown

Our students demonstrated outstanding determination, teamwork and house pride as they took part in Stockport Academy’s annual Sports Day.

The event brought the whole school community together for a day of friendly competition, with students representing their houses across a wide range of track and field events. Competitors tested their athletic abilities in javelin, shot put, discus, triple jump and long jump before taking to the sports field for sprints, relays and longer-distance races.

Alongside the traditional athletics programme, students also enjoyed a retro Sports Day area, where they could compete in classic events including tug of war, egg and spoon races, space hoppers and a variety of other activities. The addition created plenty of excitement and gave even more students the opportunity to get involved and earn valuable points for their houses.

Throughout the day, students showed excellent sportsmanship, encouraging their teammates and celebrating each other's achievements. Staff and spectators created a fantastic atmosphere, cheering participants on and helping to make the event a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

After a closely contested competition, Sagarmatha emerged as overall champions to retain the Sports Day Cup following their success last year. Their strong performances across the full range of events secured enough points to keep hold of the trophy for another year.

Mr McGahey, Head of PE, said:

"Sports Day is one of the highlights of the school year because it gives every student the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves. Whether they were competing, supporting their house or helping to run events, students showed fantastic enthusiasm and commitment throughout the day.

"The atmosphere was incredible, and I am extremely proud of the way everyone represented themselves and their houses. Congratulations to Sagarmatha on retaining the Sports Day Cup."
