One of the standout sessions of the day was Medical Mavericks, a hands-on workshop that gave students a fascinating insight into careers in medicine and the science behind healthcare innovation. From using real medical equipment to exploring the technology used in hospitals, students were able to experience first-hand what it’s like to work in the NHS and beyond.
The session sparked curiosity and ambition, with many students expressing interest in pursuing careers in healthcare after the event.
Ms Stirling, Assistant Principal, highlighted the impact of the workshop:
“Medical Mavericks was a real eye-opener for our students. It gave them a chance to see how science and compassion come together in the medical field. The energy in the room was incredible — students were engaged, asking questions, and imagining futures they hadn’t considered before.”
Alongside Medical Mavericks, students also took part in a range of workshops designed to support their personal growth and life readiness, including:
- Budgeting – Managing money and making informed financial choices
- Sleep Hygiene – Understanding the importance of rest and wellbeing
- Community – Encouraging active citizenship and social responsibility
- Self-Awareness with Andy Hadfield – Exploring values, strengths, and aspirations
- Active Bystander – Learning how to speak up in challenging situations
- Mental Health & Wellbeing – Building emotional resilience
- Deaf Awareness & Introduction to Sign Language – Promoting empathy and inclusion
Students moved through the sessions in their form groups, creating a supportive environment for discussion and shared learning.
Future Me Day was a resounding success, offering Y9 students a meaningful opportunity to explore who they are, how they relate to others, and how they can shape their futures with confidence and purpose.
