Year 11 Destiny shows star quality as public speaker

One of our Year 11 students spent two days in London after being personally invited as a guest speaker to inspire other young women.

Destiny was asked to come to the capital to speak in front of a large group of people at the Aspire Women Making A Difference (MAD) Leadership for Girls event after being nominated by her sister.

Janet Jenkins from Aspire said: “During her interview for the opportunity, Destiny spoke passionately about her desire to be a leader both at her school and in her community and how her experiences while attending Stockport Academy have helped to shape her into the amazing young woman she is today.”

Destiny was part of a panel that discussed how you can ‘increase your courage and become fearless to achieve your objectives’. She talked about ways to become more confident in everyday life.

“It was a surprise to be invited as the first I knew about it was when my sister told me I’d been selected for interview – I didn’t even know she’d put my name forward up to that point,” she said.

“It was a great day and I really enjoyed going down to London. I haven’t really done public speaking before but it was an amazing experience.”

Stockport Academy Executive Principal Mr McCarron said: “Destiny is a shining example of what can happen when our students grab exciting opportunities like this with both hands and she has such an exciting future ahead. She really is a credit to herself and the school and we couldn’t be more proud of what she has achieved.”
