Several of our staff were celebrating after picking up trophies at the national United Learning Best In Everyone Awards.
The Best in Everyone Awards celebrate the impressive achievements of pupils and staff at United Learning schools across the country. They include awards for academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and for service to school communities. As well as showcasing the talents of the Group’s pupils and staff, they also recognise some of United Learning’s most dedicated, hard-working and inspirational individuals.
The evening kicked off with a spectacular performance by the Stockport Academy choir, who sang a number of songs from the hit film, 'The Greatest Show', which was met with rapturous applause at the end of each number.
Our Engagement Team won the ‘Staff Team of the Year’ Award for their work to ensure all students are engaged and thriving in their lessons, no matter their ability, educational needs or background. They promote and encourage a sense of pride, aspiration and respect through a range of creative interventions – developing strategies and providing support to enable good behaviour, excellent progress and effective learning across the school. Through their time and input, there has been a significant increase in attendance – this is now well above the national average.
Also picking up an award was Mr Prince, who won ‘Secondary Support Staff of the Year’. Nominated by colleagues, this award celebrated his impactful work to engage local primary schools, parents and families and to show off what the academy has to offer through marketing initiatives. Through this role he has encouraged students to play an active role as ambassadors for their school, helping them build key communication and enterprise skills that will help them succeed for the future. He has also lent his support to other schools within United Learning’s Manchester cluster.
Congratulating them, Mrs McCann, Principal of Stockport Academy, said: “We have a fantastic, dedicated team of staff here at Stockport Academy, so it is hugely gratifying for them to be rewarded with not one but two awards this year. Across our school, we want students to be happy, supported and enthusiastic in their learning and I know how hard staff in every role work to deliver that. Well done to our very deserving winners, who really are making a difference for students.”
