Welcome to Stockport Academy.
Thank you for taking an interest in developing your career at our academy, which shortlisted to the final eight of the TES Secondary School of the Year Award in 2017 and 2019.
I am confident that we are able to offer a vibrant and welcoming learning community for any staff member joining us.
We have an aspirational culture at the academy that encourages everyone – students and staff alike – to achieve their best. Underpinned by our values of belief, aspiration, achievement and respect, the academy has successfully been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
In their most recent report, Ofsted described our standards as ‘high’, and said that ‘relationships between pupils and teachers are typically strong and pupils trust teachers to help them improve their work’. Inspectors noted that ‘staff are proud to be part of the school community’ and ‘they are highly motivated because they feel valued’.
As a part of United Learning, our academy benefits from shared resources, experiences, working practices and CPD opportunities that are second to none. We are delighted to have been named as the Group’s United Teaching centre for the North from September 2016, and we work with our partner schools to provide high-quality training for current staff and trainees. This affords further opportunities for staff to provide a vital contribution in our pursuit to deliver the highest standards of educational excellence.
We are a diverse, tolerant and welcoming academy which continues to be an oversubscribed school of choice for local families. I would encourage you to visit us yourself to experience first-hand what Stockport Academy offers its staff and students.
Stockport Academy is an 11-16 school committed to providing the highest possible standards in every area of the academy, in every lesson of every day and in the wider opportunities we offer our students.
Our aim is to ensure all students achieve their academic potential, whilst receiving high-quality pastoral care in an exceptionally positive climate for learning, in preparation for a bright and successful future.
We believe that students’ success at school and beyond can be driven not by social background or ability but by the quality and kind of education that they receive.
Stockport Academy strives to bring out the ‘best in everyone’. We constantly celebrate success and are a community of reflective and evaluative practitioners who work together to ensure the very best outcomes for our students.
We believe that it is important to educate students beyond the classroom and that we have a responsibility to support our young people in becoming well-rounded, mature and community-focused citizens in addition to ensuring that they are successful academically.
“I love coming to school at Stockport Academy. There is always so much going on and everyone is happy to be there!”
Rachel, Year 8 student
Having worked at Stockport Academy for two years, I didn’t expect to still find every day so exciting and new. I wholeheartedly enjoy coming to work. The students exude such individuality and kindness, making them incredibly interesting to teach.
Meanwhile, they have the ability to remain entirely accepting of their peers, despite any differences. This school has enabled me to grow in confidence and has provided me with multiple opportunities to further my own professional development.
