PE

Course details

The mission statement and ethos in PE mirrors and follows the school’s ethos of Creating Opportunity For Success. Through all practical activities these values, amongst others such as British values are reinforced on a regular basis, for example; students offer gestures such as handshakes at the end of a game whether the team has won, lost or drawn, never arguing with the official and being polite and respectful to both the opposition and their peers. Furthermore, students are encouraged to embrace physically and mentally healthy lifestyles.

Co-Curricular

Co-curricular clubs play an integral part of the students’ personal development, and students throughout the school are encouraged to take part in as many different activities as possible.

There are a wide variety of clubs that take place at lunch times and after school, with the activities offered being changed every half term.

We also have links with many external clubs who deliver activities which would not normally be offered within curriculum lessons.

In addition to the clubs, there are also numerous opportunities for students to compete competitively for the school in friendly, league and cup matches as well as tournaments in a range of sports and activities throughout the year.

Some of our sports-related co-curricular clubs on offer include:

  • Badminton
  • Dodgeball
  • Football
  • Table Tennis
  • Trampolining
Student Sports Leadership

Sports leadership is an extremely important aspect within PE and is held in very high regard by all students within the Academy. Sports leaders are confident, articulate, organised and role models to all that enter the Academy; from their peers to the primary school children they run events for.

Students are appointed as sports leaders either by their class teacher who has seen leadership qualities within lessons and extra- curricular clubs, or through applying for the role and being given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability alongside other leaders at an organised event.
