DRAMA (GCSE)
GCSE Drama builds upon the work that has been developed in KS3; it introduces you to wider aspects of theatre craft.
It is a three part course:
- 1. In Part One, you will explore issues through devised and improvised work.
- 2. In Part Two, you study a complete play text.
- 3. In Part Three, you are involved in a devised play.
The course consists of 60% coursework and a practical performance worth 40%
For the coursework, you will complete practical performance work and produce a folder of written notes. The coursework is in two sections, one being devised (improvised) the other is the study of a play. These are both examined by your teacher, who will be looking at your practical work and at your written notes.
For the practical performance you will take part in a play that you have created with a group of other students. You will be examined on your acting skills in the performance or on your design and technical skills (stage design, costume, masks and make-up, lighting or sound). You will perform your play in front of an audience and a visiting examiner.
You will develop evaluation skills and explore a range of practical theatre styles and techniques. Drama will also develop your confidence and ability to work as part of a team. These are valuable skills for a variety of jobs.
You will need to keep up to date with coursework and keep regular and accurate notes to support your practical work.
