Summer School Helps Y7 Students Settle In

Our new Y7 students enjoyed an exciting Summer School programme designed to help them feel confident and ready for the start of secondary school.

Throughout the week, students took part in a wide range of activities that encouraged them to make new friends, try new experiences and become familiar with life at Stockport Academy. Activities included rocket launches, arts and crafts, creative writing, ukulele, cheerleading, sign language, Chemistry and multi-sports.

Students were also introduced to our house system and had the opportunity to earn house points by demonstrating our core values of Aspiration, Respect and Community. The winning house celebrated its success with a special pizza lunch and a cinema trip.

One highlight was a school-wide treasure hunt, where students worked together to solve clues and explore different areas of the academy. The challenge helped students build teamwork and problem-solving skills while becoming more familiar with their new surroundings.

The week ended with a house competition day, with students dressed in their house colours while taking part in a range of team challenges, including tug of war and traditional sports day races. The event created plenty of friendly competition and showcased fantastic house spirit.

Transition Lead, Ms Foster, said: “It has been fantastic to see our new Year 7s throw themselves into every aspect of Summer School. From trying new activities and making new friends to showing our values through the house competition, they have already shown what a brilliant group they are. We hope the week has helped them feel excited, confident and ready to start their Stockport Academy journey.”
