Welcome to Stockport Academy.

Thank you for taking an interest in developing your career at our academy, which shortlisted to the final 8 of the TES Secondary School of the Year Award in 2017.

I am confident that we are able to offer a vibrant and welcoming learning community for any staff member joining us.

We have an aspirational culture at the academy that encourages everyone – students and staff alike – to achieve their best. Underpinned by our values of belief, aspiration, achievement and respect, the academy has successfully been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

In their most recent report, Ofsted praised a number of key strengths such as students’ impeccable behaviour, their ‘genuine enjoyment’ of school and their total confidence in the academy’s care and support. Likewise, inspectors were impressed by the relentless drive and determination of staff across the school to ensure the best possible education for students.

As a part of United Learning, our academy benefits from shared resources, experiences, working practices and CPD opportunities that are second to none. We are delighted to have been named as the Group’s United Teaching centre for the North from September 2016, and we work with our partner schools to provide high-quality training for current staff and trainees.  This affords further opportunities for staff to provide a vital contribution in our pursuit to deliver the highest standards of educational excellence.

We are a diverse, tolerant and welcoming academy which continues to be an oversubscribed school of choice for local families. I would encourage you to visit us yourself to experience first-hand what Stockport Academy offers its staff and students.

Janine McCann, Principal

Stockport Academy is an 11-19 school committed to providing the highest possible standards in every area of the academy, in every lesson of every day and in the wider opportunities we offer our students.

Our aim is to ensure all students achieve their academic potential, whilst receiving high-quality pastoral care in an exceptionally positive climate for learning, in preparation for a bright and successful future.

We believe that students’ success at school and beyond can be driven not by social background or ability but by the quality and kind of education that they receive.

Stockport Academy strives to bring out the ‘best in everyone’.  We constantly celebrate success and are a community of reflective and evaluative practitioners who work together to ensure the very best outcomes for our students.

We believe that it is important to educate students beyond the classroom and that we have a responsibility to support our young people in becoming well-rounded, mature and community-focused citizens in addition to ensuring that they are successful academically.

  • Stockport Academy has provided wonderful support in my first year of the profession and it is with their encouragement that I am developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to be the best teacher I can be.

Equally, students are encouraged to fulfil their potential at all times and such a co-operative ethos makes teaching at Stockport Academy an incredibly rewarding experience. With each term, I gain more confidence and this has extended to all areas of my life.

As I progress into my NQT year, I am looking forward to further personal and professional development opportunities within this academy.

  • The aim at Stockport Academy for the SENCo and the SEN Team is to ensure all students achieve their potential and are able to proceed to post-16 education, employment or training with the qualifications they need to give them the most choice.

The impact of the strategic planning and tracking is evident in our 2015 GCSE results and was corroborated by Ofsted in the same year when Stockport Academy was rated as ‘Good’.

As the SENCo at Stockport Academy I have had the opportunity to continually develop my own expertise and knowledge, in addition to developing the provision and resources we offer to meet individual needs. It has been a really exciting time to see the department expand and advance in line with the new SEN legislation.
Kath Phillips, SENCo (3 years at Stockport Academy)
