From the very beginning, our students embodied the core values of our academy, demonstrating resilience, teamwork, and determination.
Twenty-eight students signed up at the start of the academic year, embarking on what would become a life-changing journey and a memory they will carry with them for years to come.
The expedition began in the stunning Peak District, Derbyshire, where students put their training into practice - setting up camp and preparing meals using their Trangia stoves.
Day one saw the students depart from Mandale Farm Campsite, trekking through Haddon and descending into Lower Bakewell on a 10K walk lasting approximately 3.5 hours. It was the perfect warm-up for the challenges ahead. However, the weather soon turned against us on the return to camp, testing the students' resilience and teamwork. Despite the rain and fatigue, they pushed through.
Sunday began early, with students rising at 6am to prepare their equipment and fuel up for the main event.
The groups set off from various points around the Topley Pike area, each facing a 7.5-mile route under the blazing sun and carrying heavy packs. The first group to return was greeted with cheers and encouragement from our dedicated staff, followed by the second group, welcomed with proud smiles. It was a moment of pure joy and pride - one that truly captured the spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Mr Sherwood, our DofE Coordinator, said: "A huge congratulations to every student who took part. You are a credit to your families, our academy, and the wider community. Your perseverance and character shone through every step of the way.
"Finally, a HUGE thank you to our incredible staff: Mr Farquhar, Mrs Rothel, Mrs Finley, Mr Lewis, Ms Higgins, and Mr Dickinson. Your support, guidance, and enthusiasm made this expedition possible."
