Competing in two teams, students tackled a series of challenging activities designed to put their engineering and problem-solving skills to the test.
Throughout the day, students took part in a wide range of tasks, from designing marble runs to make a marble take as long as possible to travel from top to bottom, launching rockets at a target, using springs to estimate the weight of mystery objects, and constructing towers capable of supporting an egg using only spaghetti and jelly babies.
One of the most popular challenges was "Sink or Swim", where teams had to design and build a vessel capable of holding as many marbles as possible without sinking. Our students excelled, with both teams earning medals after securing second and third place in the competition.
The event gave students the opportunity to apply their classroom learning in a practical setting while developing valuable skills such as communication, collaboration and resilience. Despite the hot and humid conditions, they demonstrated excellent attitudes throughout the day and represented the academy with pride.
Science Teacher Mr Routledge, who organised the visit, said: "The students were fantastic throughout the day. They embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, worked brilliantly as teams and showed real creativity when solving problems. To come away with two medals in such a competitive event was a fantastic achievement, and they should be very proud of themselves."
