The Hub

Gone are the days of the stuffy and boring library! The Hub is the home of information and support in the academy, and a place where our students are truly able to advance their independent learning skills. Its calm and laid back atmosphere makes students feel perfectly at home. Located on the first floor, the Hub has easy access from anywhere within the building.

The two main objectives of the Hub are to support curriculum development and to promote reading for pleasure. Whether students wish to find somewhere to do their homework or simply pick a comfy space to sit back and read, the Hub is the place to be.

What sort of books will I find?

Having had a full refurbishment in November 2014, we have around 7,000 of the latest and most exciting titles - the majority of which were chosen by our students themselves. Our fiction ranges from poetry and the classics, to adventure stories, romance, and much more. Our extensive selection of non-fiction titles fully support all aspects of the curriculum. We even have a fine assortment of comic books and manga!

Students are free to access our online library database, simply by logging into their school accounts. allows students to search for books, manage their accounts and check out the latest suggestions through the Book of the Week and Top Ten reads widgets.

When is The Hub open?

The Hub is open 8am-4pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am-3pm on Friday: before school, at lunch and after school.

Enrichment Clubs at the Hub

The Hub offers a variety of extra-curricular enrichments after school. Every Monday we have a Graphic Novel club, where students get to read, discuss and draw everything to do with graphic novels. In conjunction with this club, our school takes part in the nationwide Excelsior Award, which gives students the opportunity to read and review the very latest comic books on offer. In addition to Graphic Novel Club, every Thursday we have a Book club, created to encourage and develop reading for pleasure. A new book is picked by students each month and they then read and carry out fun activities specifically related to the book, such as acting out key scenes, or re-writing chapters. We also have a Chess club for all those budding chess grandmasters out there, which takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school.

The school is part of United Learning. United Learning comprises: UCST (Registered in England No: 2780748. Charity No. 1016538) and ULT (Registered in England No. 4439859. An Exempt Charity). Companies limited by guarantee. VAT number 834 8515 12.
