Little Shop of Horrors

Our fabulous production of the Little Shop of Horrors!

A true team effort delivered an outstanding school production this year which took place on 21st-23rd May.

Budding actors, singers, musicians and dancers from across the school showcased their talents in our production of 'Little Shop of Horrors.' Since the auditions in November, students and staff have worked throughout lunchtimes and after school to put together the truly fantastic show. Parents, family and friends filled the theatre, raising the roof with their applause.

Drama Teacher and Little Shop of Horrors Director, Mr McCarthy said, "I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support from all areas within the school, from the Art Department, the ICT team, Product Design and Textiles, the support staff, the marketing team, our Chaplain, finance and many others who helped this production become a reality and a success. The biggest thank you has to go to our students who have worked incredibly hard to put on an outstanding show."

The cast transported the audience to a run down flower shop in urban Skid Row, New York City where Seymour works as a floor sweeper and dreams of better things. Seymour buys a new strange plant and calls it Audrey II (named after his fellow shop worker Audrey whom he admires). Seymour soon discovers that the plan seems to have a craving for blood and soon begins to sing for its supper. The plant gows and grows and soon attracts attention to the shop. Soon enough Seymour finds himself feeding Audrey's sadistic dentist boyfriend to the plant and later, Mr Mushnick (the flower shop owner) for witnessing the death of Audrey's dentist boyfield.

Outstanding acting performances from Ben Ross (Year 9) who played Mr Mushnik, Owen Peters (Year 9) who played Seymour, James Cretney (Year 9) who played the dentist and Chloe Smith (Year 10) who played Audrey and also gave stunning vocal performances.

Mrs Winterbottom, Ms Kneen and the Year 9 and 10 art students did a fantastic job painting our newly acquired canvas scenery boards and Year 13 students Connor and Eve did an amazing job with make up.

"Excellent Production this evening. Well done to all. Highly recommended"

"A HUGE congratulations on the brilliant show!!!! I saw it last night (unfortunately without my year 7 daughter, who would have adored it too) and was bowled over by the professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment of all involved with the show - from front of house, dancers, musicians, ice cream and refreshment sellers, to all the singers and stars and backstage assistants, sound and lighting....... I have been involved in (and been to see) literally hundreds of school shows - and this ranks up there with the most enjoyable!!! Stockport Academy should be really proud of this - and I wonder what show you will all do next year?!!! Can I reserve a ticket already? ENCORE!!!!!"
