Year 7 Footballers In Sport Relief Tournament Challenge

By Student Sports Correspondent Jamie Howarth.

Our 1st game wasn’t a great success, losing 1-0 to Cheadle Hulme - with an early goal from their front man making the difference. After this, we attacked and defended well but it was too little, too late at the end of the day.

Better things were to come in the later stages of the tournament. Our 2nd game definitely went to plan against Harrytown High School. With glory in our minds, we had to win this match. The match ended 1-0 to us with a goal from our right winger Leighton to seal the deal on the day. We played very well, and with one game in hand, we needed to win to get through to the next round.

However, our final game was a disappointing result. With one win to go we couldn’t afford to lose. In the early minutes of the game, Tom curled a very nice goal into the roof of the net, making us lead 1-0. It very cagey at the end of the game. With a switch of goalkeepers in the final match, that changed our formation around a little bit. In the final kick off the game, the opposition scored, sending us out of the competition.

Our managers Mr Hargreaves and Mr Mcgahey said: “If we were the players, we would be so happy and proud with ourselves. The players on that pitch were very unlucky and we believe we will do very well in the next tournament."

Year 7 were unlucky and will thrive for success next time!
