Stockport Academy Celebrates In Style At Annual Prizegiving Ceremony

The achievements and efforts of the school year were celebrated in style at our annual Prizegiving ceremony.
Students, families, staff and friends of the school made their way to the prestigious Stockport Plaza Theatre for an evening where we recognised the best of 2017-18.
Prizes were presented across a wide range of categories, including form tutor awards, gold/platinum merits, subject awards, Head of Year awards and much more.
One of the highlights saw four Year 11 students achieve 5 years 100% attendance – meaning they hadn’t missed a day of school throughout their entire time at Stockport Academy. All four were rewarded with a trophy and a laptop or iPad.
The evening also involved the presentation of cheques to our school charities for the year. Over £5,000 was donated in total to Myeloma UK, Once Upon A Smile and Signpost Stockport Young Carers.
Trophies were presented by our guest speaker Ben Cooley, who is CEO of the Hope For Justice Charity. Ben shared his inspiring story of setting up the international organisation, which tackles modern slavery, with over 1,300 members of the audience who gave him a rousing reception.
One of the highlights of the night was the celebration of Reprographics Manager Mrs Watts, who is set to retire in Easter 2019. Mrs Watts has spent 25 years at the school and was attending her first prizegiving – it was one to remember as she received a commemorative watch in recognition of her dedication and a standing ovation as she made her way on stage.
Principal Mrs McCann said: “Prizegiving is one of the highlights of our school calendar and this year we were proud to have invited more students than ever before. The event is one of pure class and sums up our school values of Believe, Aspire, Achieve and Respect perfectly. I would like to thank everyone involved for making this such a memorable night.”
