Sell-out Beauty And The Beast Is A Stage Success

Musical theatre lovers were invited to be our guest for this year’s Stockport Academy production of Beauty and the Beast.

The classic Disney tale was a sell-out over two nights, with over 400 primary students also attending two matinee performances during the week.

The story focuses on the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realise the kind heart and soul of the person within.

Students and staff put countless hours into rehearsing for the production, in particular the demanding musical numbers including ‘Be Our Guest’, ‘Human Again’ and ‘Beauty and The Beast’.

Families were quick to give rave reviews on Twitter following the performance, with audience members describing the show as “Professional and polished and absolutely absorbing”, as well as it being the "best show yet".

Year 4, 5 and 6 students were treated to special afternoon performances, with classes from Alexandra Park, Cheadle Heath, Lark Hill, St Matthews, Cale Green, Meadowbank, Vernon Park, and Adswood Primaries all having a great time and taking the opportunity to get their pictures taken with the cast afterwards.

Head of Performing Arts Mrs Campbell said: “Beauty and the Beast was our most ambitious project yet and it was amazing to see the show come to life after months and months of hard work putting it together.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the production, from the cast and crew to the staff who helped us out on the night, the Art and Design students who put hours into creating props and of course our wonderfully supportive families who came to watch us on both nights. We’re looking forward to the next show already!”
