The achievements of our PE and Performing Arts departments were celebrated in style at Stockport Academy’s third annual Performance Awards.
For the first time, the ceremony was held at the magnificent Hallmark Hotel, with students dressing up in their finest to enjoy a delicious three-course meal and find out who the night’s big winners were.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Team GB Handball and Waterpolo player, Rafik Tahraoui. Rafik opened the celebrations by speaking to our students about his own career and the challenges he has faced along the way, as well as highlighting the importance of Performing Arts and PE as subjects at school.
Staff from the two departments then began announcing the winners – with categories ranging from ‘Dancer of the Year’ and ‘Sports Leader of the Year’ to ‘Drama Queen’ and ‘Sports Personality of the Year’.
After the awards had been handed out, everyone made their way to the dance floor to celebrate with a disco, with former Stockport Academy student, Shaun Brady, DJing for the night.
Head of Performing Arts Mrs Campbell said: “We have had the best night celebrating some truly inspirational achievements and we are so proud of every single student who attended tonight.
“I would also like to thank Rafik and our staff for giving up their own time to make our Performance Awards extra special. This year’s ceremony has been the best one yet and we can’t wait to do it all again in 12 months’ time.”
