Over 600 pieces of artwork were put on display as we opened our doors for our annual Key Stage 3 Art Showcase.
Taking place over the course of two hours after school, the event was attended by students, their families and Stockport Academy staff who were all keen to see some of the outstanding work created during the first term of the year.
Each year group had been creating sculptures based on different themes, with Year 7 focusing on ‘Sweet Treats’, Year 8 on ‘Hogwarts’ and Year 9 on ‘Fantastic and Strange’. Students came up with their own interpretation of the themes, with inspirational end products that included some interactive pieces, some with moving parts and even some that lit up!
Every sculpture was judged by our Art department staff, with Ms Stirling and Ms Higgins picking five of the best entries to win prizes on the night, with some art sets up for grabs for the well-deserving winners.
Head of Art and Design Technology Ms Stirling said: “The standard of work submitted by our students gets higher every year and we have seen some amazing, well thought-out pieces.
“Students demonstrated a high level of technical skill and creativity and it was wonderful to see such a high turnout of visitors to appreciate the hard work that went into creating their sculptures.”
