Students Book Time In With Award-Winning Author

We were visited by an award-winning children’s writer in the run-up to World Book Day, who delivered three brilliant sessions to help students develop their creative writing.

Annabel Pitcher, author of ‘My Sister Lives On The Mantlepiece’, ‘Ketchup Clouds’, ‘Silence Is Goldfish’ and ‘The Last Days Of Archie Maxwell’, spent the day with students in Years 7, 9 and 10.

In the first class of the day, Annabel spoke with Year 7s about how she became a writer, before taking part in a Q and A session.

Year 9 and 10 students enjoyed a creative writing masterclass, with Annabel sharing her expert tips on how to set a scene, start and develop a story, and use subtlety to creative ‘terrifying writing’.

Literacy Co-ordinator Mrs Cawsey said: “It was brilliant to have Annabel spend the day with us and share her insight into what makes a successful writer. The experience our students have gained through the techniques and advice they have picked up throughout the day is invaluable.

“We all really enjoyed the day and it was great to pick up some writing tips from one of the best in the business!”

All of Annabel’s books are available to borrow from The Hub.
