Stockport Academy Goes For Gold With Mental Health Award
/ Categories: News
2018 ended on an award-winning high with Stockport Academy becoming the first school in Stockport to achieve the Mental Health in Schools Gold Award.
Our school was already the first in the country to receive the Silver standard just before the end of the Summer term, and the top level of the Award was confirmed just before students broke up for Christmas.
The honour recognises a dedication to championing student and staff emotional wellbeing, while raising awareness of how those struggling with mental health can be supported.
As well as offering regular counselling drop-in sessions, we have trained staff to become Mental Health First-Aiders and PE Teacher Ms Foster was recently appointed ambassador for Mental Health charity The Jamie Horrocks Trust.
Principal Mrs McCann said: “Mental Health awareness is such an important issue and we are delighted to have received this award.
“We are extremely passionate as a school about promoting this message and I am proud of the work our students and staff have done to spread the word that it’s ok not to be ok.”
