A group of our students were left brimming with confidence after successfully running Stockport’s iconic Hat Works Museum for the day.
The activity was organised as part of the national Takeover Day campaign, which involves young people from all over the country literally taking over local museums. Stockport Academy is the first school in the borough to participate in the programme.
Students in Years 8 and 9 spent six weeks visiting the Hat Works, where they learned about, applied for and then trained in several different roles – including front of house, curator and tour guide.
They were also responsible for their own marketing, drawing up posters and managing social media to encourage visitors to come and see them on the day.
Principal Mr McCarron said: “To be the first school in Stockport to get involved in Takeover Day at the Hat Works Museum is a great honour and we’re all extremely proud of the students who took part.
“The amount of positive feedback we heard from visitors who went to the museum and were taken on a tour by Stockport Academy students was fantastic. This was a superb opportunity for young people to gain valuable insight into the running of a business and encourage them to actively engage with museums in their local community.”
A huge well done to everyone who took part. Click the files below to listen to radio coverage of the event on the day.
