Stockport Academy Christmas Market is a cracker

The weather outside was frightful, but Stockport Academy’s Christmas Market was a delightful day for all involved.
More than 40 stalls featured throughout the atrium, refectory and sports hall for the four-hour event on Saturday. With Christmas music playing in between live performances from our steel band and the Stockport Schools’ Brass Band, the atmosphere was indeed a festive one.
As well as the opportunity to finish off the Christmas present list with just under a month to go until the big day, there was plenty to do for all ages. Younger visitors could spend time on our bouncy castle or go for a ride on miniature ponies (disguised as reindeer, of course!), while guests of all ages were spotted grabbing a quick selfie with Princesses Ana and Elsa and a Minion!
In true Christmas Market style, traditional German Bratwurst sausages were on offer for those feeling a bit peckish, while the ever-popular chocolate tombola sold out in record time.
Some of our entrepreneurial students even had a go at running a stall themselves, bringing mug decorating, baking, name the teddy and soap gift bags into the mix of festive goods.
Naturally, the star attraction was Santa himself. This year he managed to bring his brand new sleigh with him to show off before making a hasty return to the North Pole.
Principal Mr McCarron said: “Our Christmas Market is a highlight of the school calendar and it was great to see so many members of the local community visit Stockport Academy on the day, despite the horrendous weather!
“Well done to all the staff and students who contributed to such a successful event.”
