‘Future Me Day’ Encourages Students To Think About Their Future Pathways

Key Stage 3 students took part in a series of workshops which focused on further study, careers, mental health and personal development.

On 21st October, external organisations joined us in delivering a ‘Future Me Day’ packed with interesting information about university, mental health, budgeting money and more.

Year 7, 8 and 9 enjoyed workshops on a range of topics, including: First Aid, how to navigate online digital life, managing stress and anxiety, self-esteem, understanding gender, animal rights, knife crime, understanding Humanism, healthy eating.

Year 9 explored ‘Higher Education Uncovered’, where they discussed university courses and campus-life with GM Higher, and they also found out about how bank accounts and budgeting work with sessions facilitated by Barclays.

Brook, Kooth, Mind, Footlights Schools Ltd and the Proud Trust spoke to students about mental wellbeing, and issues impacting upon self-esteem - this included a guided meditation session (see gallery below). Stockport Youth Justice and Targeted Youth Support delivered a session on the dangers of knife crime, and students were even scanned on the way into the classroom!

We were also joined by Animal Aid and the Humanist Society who delivered engaging sessions about their personal philosophies.

Mrs Thandi, our Future Me & CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) coordinator, said “The day has been a great success. Our students engaged really well with the sessions and have developed lots of practical skills – particularly in managing stress and budgeting money – which will help them throughout school and future life.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the organisations who delivered workshops on the day, and to staff at the Academy who also facilitated, and assisted in, the sessions.

All of the workshops offered our students valuable and exciting insight into different areas of life, to help them to grow and to achieve their potential”.
