Stockport Academy Primary Schools' Dance and Music Showcase

Students from Vernon Park, St Thomas', Alexandra Park and Cheadle Heath show off their skills to proud parents.

Tuesday 9th December saw Stockport Academy celebrating the work that we are doing with some of our primary schools. The Academy offers curricular support to 10 schools in the local area in the subjects of IT, Food Technology, Languages, Art, Dance and Music.

The showcase captured the work of our dance and music teachers who are working this year with students from Vernon Park, Alexandra Park, St Thomas' and Cheadle Heath to produce the 'Pied Piper' Christmas spectacular. Our lovely year 5 and 6 students took to the stage to sing, dance and play in a colourful and touching exhibition of self-confidence and good fun.

The evening included an opening act from our own Academy students as they showed our capacity audience the progression of dance through the years from year 7 to sixth form.

Said Mr McCarron, Principal "this was a delightful evening which again shows us the talent available in our young community and reminds us of the need to embrace talent and promote self-confidence and pride. We were proud to show parents, many of whom have never been in the Academy, a taste of the opportunities offered to our students here in this lovely school."

Event organisers Lisa Campbell and John Hulme were delighted with the show and commented "The Primary Music and Dance Festival 2014 was a huge success. All the children who took part were incredible and a real credit to themselves and all the primary schools involved. Well done to Vernon Park, Cheadle Heath, Alex Park and St Thomas' for all your efforts.Everyone did so well and should be very proud of their achievements. The reactions of all the children when they came off stage was overwhelming."

The show was a true reflection of how hard all the primaries have been working with Mr Hulme and Mrs Campbell  each week. This event was part of our developing links with our local primary schools and will be one of many fantastic opportunities for our local schools to be a part of.
