University of Manchester Wow Students with their Whizz Bang Show
Our annual Christmas Science Lecture held on 4th December was a truly explosive show superbly delivered by Dr Frank Mair, Senior Lecturer from the University of Manchester's School of Chemistry.
180 students and staff from Stockport Academy and Salford Academy packed into our Main Hall and were soon wowed by Dr Mair's famous explosive Flash-Bang show, which he delivers as part of the STEMClub network linked with University of Manchester's outreach programme.
The amazing show drew lots of 'oohs' and 'aahs' as a ball of hire engulfed the experiment desk as Dr Mair burned oxygen enriched biscuits. Another experiment saw Dr Mair wow students by burning a variety of crisps showing how our bodies are hotter than the sun.
This highly educational lecture celebrated the enthusiasm our students have for Science (the Academy's specialism) and Dr Mair received a rapturous applause at the end of the evening.
There is no doubt that this lecture made a lasting impression on our students, with many commenting at the end of the evening that they wish to study the Sciences when they go to University.
Thank you to Ms Brazier and our Science Department for organising the event and to our Marketing team who supported throughout.
