Stockport Academy’s dance group showed one of the country’s best dancers how to bust a move at United Learning’s annual Ideas Festival (IDFest).
The 30 performers – represented by all year groups in school and Sixth Form – put on a choreographed interpretation of Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ in front of four primary schools and two other secondaries at AKS School in Lytham as part of a day celebrating culture, music and dance.
After spending the morning leading a number of workshops to teach primary school students the moves to the dance, they were involved in a grand finale that also featured former Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson.
George won the national television competition in 2008 and has since gone on to develop a career as a professional dancer and actor – and was happy to receive instructions from Stockport Academy students so he could take part in the dance too.
He then performed a solo routine and spoke to students about his perseverance to become a Britain’s Got Talent champion.
Head of Performing Arts Mrs Campbell said: “Our dance group really did themselves proud and we actually received several comments from the Headteachers of the other schools on what a high standard they performed to.
“Well done to everyone involved as the amount of work that went into perfecting their routine really paid off.”
