A Stockport Academy student has shown a real dedication to education – by not missing a single day of lessons in seven years.
Shaun Brady, who is a Sixth Form student at the academy, has attended every class since he joined Year 7 in 2010. His achievement was recognised as part of the academy’s annual Prizegiving event, this year held in the grand surroundings of Stockport Plaza. The Academy rewarded Shaun for his amazing effort with a brand new multimedia projector.
Commenting on his achievement, Shaun said: “It’s not something I’ve really thought about until the last few years, but as time has gone on, I think people would have been more shocked if I had taken a day off! The award is a huge motivation to come in every day - not missing lessons is so important if you want to do well.”
A further eight Year 11 students were honoured for completing five years of their studies with 100% attendance. They were each rewarded with a brand new laptop and a trophy.
Students, staff and families also heard from Ben Smith from the 401 Challenge, who was the guest speaker for the night. Ben ran 401 marathons in 401 days and delivered an inspiring talk to the 1,000 guests. Additionally, the Academy donated £5,000 between its charities for the year – St Ann’s Hospice, Signpost Stockport For Young Carers and Habarana School in Sri Lanka.
Executive Principal Mr McCarron said: “This year has been our best Prizegiving evening to date and I am proud that we have been able to present nearly 350 awards over the course of the night. I would like to pass on a big well done to all students who have worked so hard over the last year to get here.”
