Stockport Academy students celebrate GCSE results

Stockport Academy’s atrium was a hub of excitement and elation this morning, as our Y11s picked up their GCSE results.

The doors opened at 10am sharp, with many students making their way inside at the earliest opportunity – understandable after a long wait over the summer holidays!

Among those students celebrating success were:

·         James Cretney, who achieved an A* (History), 7 As (Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Drama, English Language, English Literature, Physics) and a B (Product Design).

·         Ben Ross, who achieved 2 A*s (Maths, English Literature), 6 As (French, History, Drama, English Language, Additional Science, Business) and a B (Core Science).

·         Amy Lowe, who achieved 4 A*s (History, Maths, English Literature, Physics, 4 As (Geography, Biology, Chemistry, English Language) and a C (Resistant Materials).

Twins Alisha and Erin Clews Murray also picked up their results together this morning with their mum and were overjoyed at their results.

Erin, who achieved 3 A*s (History, Biology, Chemistry), 3 As (Geography, Drama, Physics), 2 Bs (English Language, English Literature) and a C (Maths), said: “We both did better than we expected! There’s usually a bit of competition between us, but not today. It’s been a long and stressful wait over the last few weeks.”

Alisha, who achieved an A* (History), 3 As (Biology, Chemistry, English Literature), 2 Bs (Geography, Drama), and a C (Maths), added: “It’s also our mum’s birthday today, so we’re glad we were able to give her a good present with our results and are looking forward to enjoying the rest of the day.”

After receiving their results, many students went on to enrol for Stockport Academy’s Sixth Form. Last week, our A Level students achieved a 98% overall pass rate.

Principal Mr McCarron said: “I am very pleased for those students who have received good results today and whose hard work and determination has paid off.

“It’s also particularly pleasing to see strong performances in the core subjects of English and Maths and also in the academy’s specialism, Science.  I would like to thank our staff for their dedication and enthusiasm, as well as our parents for their support and commitment to Stockport Academy.”
