Record numbers attend Stockport Academy Open Evening

A record number of visitors attended Stockport Academy’s Open Evening last night.

Nearly 400 people came through our doors to see our facilities and meet staff and students, with the event taking place between 6pm and 8pm.

After receiving their Stockport Academy goodie bag, families were taken on a tour of the academy by student Gold Ties and Prefects, before they made their way into a packed main hall to listen to a presentation by Principal Frank McCarron.

Guests were treated to performances by the school choir and steel band, while dance students also put on a show in the atrium.

In the classrooms, parents and prospective students had the opportunity to try out a range of activities from bookmark making in Textiles with Ms Taylor to using our laser cutter to make pencil holders in Design and Technology with Ms Boulton.

Mr Campbell and Mr Tate’s Science show drew rapturous applause, while elsewhere there was the chance to make fruit kebabs, have a go at badminton and basketball, try out marbling in Art, sample foods of the world and take an MFL quiz, and participate in a Media workshop.

“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome the local community into Stockport Academy once again,” said Mr McCarron.

“The fact that visitor numbers were at their highest levels ever adds to what has already been an amazing year for us as we continue in our journey to Outstanding school status.”
