Our Health and Social students have recently spent several sessions with pupils at two local primary schools as part of their Y11 studies.
St Matthews and Adswood Primaries hosted the groups, with our students observing and participating in several different activities to see how primary school teachers keep track of their students’ development and how they encourage children to speak and play with each other.
Isabelle Spencer, Laura Drabble and Chloe Birch all visited Adswood Primary and explained that the experience was invaluable to the work they’ve been doing and helped provide real insight into their studies.
They said: “It was much different from when we were at primary school – the children were all practising sign language which was something we never did and that was really interesting. All of the pupils were really friendly and polite and we really enjoyed our time with them.”
Another interesting point of note was the pupil’s ‘peer massage’ sessions, where children are encouraged to sit in rows and massage each other to get them used to socialising and being around each other.
Vice Principal Mrs McCann, who accompanied our students on the visit, said: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank both St Matthews and Adswood Primary Schools for welcoming us into their classrooms. These sessions have really made a difference to our Health and Social students’ outlook and will have a big impact on their studies.”
