Tots PE Festival at Stockport Academy

Our sports leaders support a fantastic day out for years 1 and 2 in a festival of games and sports

On February 12th, Stockport Academy played host to a fantastic PE festival for Year 1 and 2 students from primary schools around Stockport. Supported by our own young sports leaders the event included activities such as relay races, hurdles, long jumps, sprints and much more.

With 98 tots involved the sports hall was buzzing and it was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and excitement they displayed for every event.

Sports Coordinator Roz Callaghan said: "I was asked to pass on positive comments from at least two other members of staff today about the 'fantastic' leaders at the academy and how impressed they had been with the way the leaders interacted with, encouraged and motivated the younger children.

From my point of view they were some of the best leaders I have worked with at the Academy - listening well at the beginning and then working independently and with enthusiasm for the whole of the morning. The success of the event was entirely down to them, so please pass on everyone's gratitude."

Events such as these also present a golden opportunity for Stockport Academy's sports leader students to get valuable experience in event management which includes getting people in the right place at the right time, equipment requirements, how activities are performed, scoring etc.
