Stockport Academy taking steps towards a green future

Stockport Academy has been hosting a special event to encourage the education sector to become more environmentally-friendly.

The conference, which is taking place at several academies across the north and midlands between February 17th and 20th, featured speakers from a range of backgrounds from renewable energy to office suppliers.

Delegates were shown how the use of solar panelling, LED lighting, biomass heating and upgrading their photocopiers could make a real difference to the amount of energy they consume  The message was how to get more out of their resources whilst contributing to environmental impact reduction.

The key message was that academies need to take a ‘whole school’ approach to energy efficiency, and this point was emphasised by United Learning’s Director of Estates Graham Harvey-Browne.

“One of the main challenges is not about how good the school equipment is, but how well staff and students use it,” he said. “It is all about changing behaviour.”
