Paralympian 'GLAMs' up for Stockport Academy

Paralympic double silver medal winner Claire Cashmore joined Year 7 girls at Stockport Academy for a morning of activities designed to encourage them to lead an active lifestyle.

The session was led by the academy’s student GLAM (Girls Leadership and Marketing) Squad as part of their Girls Active programme. Girls Active is a national initiative driven by the Youth Sport Trust, which aims to improve girls’ attitude towards PE and their body image.

Swimmer Claire, who clinched two silvers and a bronze in the pool during London 2012, observed the students taking part in hula hoop and dancercise classes, before speaking to the group about her experiences as a sportswoman.

Mrs Hacking, who organised Claire’s visit through the Sky Sports ‘Living For Sport’ programme, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Claire to our school and it was truly inspirational to hear about how sport has made a positive impact on her life.

“Her story really left a lasting impression on our students and our GLAM Squad is showing real enthusiasm to continue that drive to promote an active lifestyle to their classmates.”

Well done to all of our Year 7 girls who participated!
