Academy students given behind the scenes tour of one of Stockport’s largest employers

A group of our Year 9 students paid a visit to the UK’s largest vehicle leasing business to learn more about the modern world of work.

The trip coincides with National Apprenticeship Week, which aims to encourage students to consider their options when they leave education.

Lex Autolease – which has a site based close to the Academy on Heathside Park Road – is responsible for a fleet of around 270,000 vehicles, and operates several areas of the business from Stockport, including corporate customer services, car and van rental, and vehicle service management.

The students sat in with colleagues working on these three teams; learning about their roles, what it’s like to work in an office and the opportunities for career progression.

Ms Sorby, who organised the visit as part of an ongoing partnership with Lex Autolease through the Business In The Community group, said the day had given students a unique insight into the modern world of work.

“As well as getting a taste of what life is like working in an office, they were able to ask questions about salaries, setting career goals and the key skills required to succeed in this environment.”

A further two visits are planned over the coming weeks.
